Permanent Representation of Georgia to the Council of Europe

Permanent Representation of Georgia to the Council of Europe

Representative's Welcome Speech

Dear friends,

Welcome to the official website of the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the Council of Europe!

It is a great responsibility and honor for me to serve the national interests of my country in the organization that defends and promotes our historical values and fundamental principles.

In 1999, Georgia became the 41st member of the Council of Europe and since then, we have been part of the united European family in defending common values – democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

Our membership and cooperation with the Council of Europe is a responsibility to our citizens and a commitment to European values.

Georgia firmly continues to move forward on its path of European integration. Our goal is to strengthen democracy, ensure strong institutions, unwaveringly protect human rights and promote peace in our country and in the region. At the same time, we support the Georgian diaspora, promote the protection of the interests of our compatriots residing or temporarily staying in France.

I believe our cooperation to continue for in solidarity, with mutual respect and the sake of the united European future.

In today's geopolitical context full of challenges, when more than 20 percent of our country is under the Russian occupation, Georgia as a member of the European family, firmly continues to move on its path of European integration, which is the choice of the absolute majority of our population and the declared constitutional goal of the democratically elected government of Georgia.

Georgia continues to implement the obligations assumed under the EU Association Agreement, carrying out reforms to strengthen democracy, economy, state institutions, and the judiciary. The logical continuation of this path is a membership of the European Union. On European path of our country, the support and cooperation with the Council of Europe remain crucially important.

I have a great respect for the values and history of the Council of Europe and I sincerely hope and believe to contribute, with my experience, to further strengthening and deepening the cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe.
