Lasha Darsalia has participated in the meeting of Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

On 8 November, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lasha Darsalia participated in a roundtable discussion of the Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) arriving in Georgia from 8 to 12 November.

During the meeting, the First Deputy Minister focused on the rights of IDPs, women living near the occupation line and in the occupied regions. He spoke about the gravity of the humanitarian, human rights and security situation in the occupied territories as a result of the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Georgia, which has a special impact on the implementation of women's rights and puts them at increased risk of violence. He stressed that the problem become even more serious given the fact that the occupied territories are inaccessible to international human rights organizations.

 
During the meeting, the GREVIO experts were also briefed on the steps taken under the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda and the 2018-2020 National Action Plan of Georgia for Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security.
 
Lasha Darsalia reiterated that Georgia fully adheres to the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
