Publication date: 2013-05-16 Information on the 123rd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

The 123rd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was held in Strasbourg on the 16th of May 2013. Armenia has assumed the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers for a period of six months.The Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze, delivered a speech to the session in which she focused upon the need to de-occupy Georgia's occupied territories and upon the urgency of the need for the international community to support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ms Panjikidze also called upon the Council of Europe to make full and effective use of all the mechanisms at its disposal for the monitoring of human rights in Georgia's occupied territories.

Publication date: 2013-05-29 Information on the 1171st meeting of the Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe

At its 1,171st meeting held on the 29th of May 2013, the Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe discussed the seventh Consolidated Report on the Conflict in Georgia, presented by the Secretary-general of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland. It is important that the Council of Europe continues to monitor the Russian Federation's implementation of the obligations and commitments it undertook following the war of August 2008, and that the conflict itself remains high on the political agenda of the Council of Europe. The Secretary-general's report places particular emphasis upon the grave human rights situation in Georgia's occupied territories.
