On 1 July, the Georgian Foreign Minister, Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Pedro Agramunt.
Discussions focused on close co-operation between Georgia and the PACE, ongoing democratic reforms in Georgia, parliamentary elections scheduled for October 2016 and the situation in the region.
The Minister thanked the President of the PACE for constructive co-operation with Georgia and for active work of the PACE Co-rapporteurs on Georgia.
The sides discussed human rights violations in Georgia’s occupied territories and emphasized the necessity to punish those who killed Giga Otkhozoria.
Pedro Agramunt, on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, expressed his unequivocal support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized the necessity for the Russian Federation to comply with its commitments under the PACE resolutions and to withdraw the recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories.
