The 1194th meeting of the Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe was held in Strasbourg, on the 12th of March 2014. "The Council of Europe and the Conflict in Georgia" was among the issues on the agenda of discussions at this meeting.
Georgia's permanent representative, Mr Konstantine Korkelia made a presentation regarding the resumption of illegal activities of Russian occupation troops across the occupation line in the Tskhinvali region. The EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe and the ambassadors of France, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Latvia, Norway, Estonia, United Kingdom, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark and Ukraine also delivered their remarks. The U.S. representative to the Council of Europe enjoying observer status also made a statement in support for Georgia.
The representatives of the Council of Europe reaffirmed their unequivocal support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders. They expressed their concern over the so-called borderization process and called upon Russia to immediately fulfill its commitments under the 12 August Ceasefire Agreement and to abolish the so-called security zone set up in the depth of the Georgian territory allegedly for ensuring security during the Olympic Games in Sochi.
The participants of the meeting also urged Russia not to prevent the EUMM from carrying out its mandated tasks throughout the entire territory of Georgia, in particular, in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
