Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Dondua has met representatives of the Council of Europe

On 22 September 2015 Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Dondua met Deputy to the Director of the Directorate General for Political Affairs of the Council of Europe Daniil Khoshabo, Political Adviser at the Directorate General Marsel Capi and Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia Cristian Urse.

The aim of the visit of the Council of Europe delegation to Georgia is to prepare the Council of Europe Secretary General’s 12th Consolidated Report on the Conflict in Georgia.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, in particular, on the signature of the so called “treaties” between the Russian Federation and the Sokhumi and Tskhinvali occupation regimes, on the installation of so-called border signs across the occupation line, as well as on the dire humanitarian situation on the ground.     

Special attention was paid to the decision adopted by the Committee of Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe at its the 1227th meeting held on 12 May 2015, where the Committee calls on the Russian Federation to grant unrestricted access to the Council of Europe bodies to the areas affected by the conflict in Georgia.

The sides also highlighted the importance of the Council of Europe’s confidence building mechanisms, focusing on the issues discussed within the framework of the Geneva International Discussions. 

At the end of the meeting, Davit Dondua presented to the members of the CoE delegation the quarterly Report (for April-June 2015) on the Human Rights Situation in Georgia’s Occupied territories.
